After the European Championships, after the gold medal and a great summer, my second season in the NBA is here. It’s a new challenge that I take with a lot of enthusiasm, I’m thrilled. I think my first year in the league was good, but it wasn’t easy. They say the second year is toughest, because the other teams and rivals know you better. But I look forward to this new challenge and I’m ready to make a step forward in my career in the NBA. After the celebration in Spain for the gold medal I didn’t have much time to rest. I had to do a photo shoot and a press conference and then I flew back to Portland on Saturday 26. It’s such a long trip from Spain! On Sunday I had to get my home ready and shop a little bit and on Monday the season started with “media day”. It’s something that you have to take with humor and patience, because it’s a long day… We do all kind of stuff, photos, video, interviews, commercials, radio, etc. And on Tuesday the practices started in Tualatin; we will have two a days the whole week. I’ll let you know how it goes.

Después del europeo de Polonia, de la medalla de oro y de un gran v erano, llega mi segunda temporada en la NBA. Un reto más que afronto con mucha ilusión. Creo que mi primer año en la liga fue bueno, pero no fue nada fácil. Y dicen que el segundo año es más difícil,  porque los equipos y los jugadores rivales te conocen más. Pero tengo ganas de afrontar este nuevo reto y de dar un paso adelante en mi carrera en la NBA. Después de las celebraciones por el oro europeo no tuve mucho tiempo para descansar. Tuve que hacer unas fotos para una campaña publicitaria de American Crew y también un acto con Bido Bido que me sirvió para despedir el verano y dar la bienvenida a la nueva temporada. El sábado 26 viajé a Portland; un viaje muy, muy largo. El domingo aproveché para hacer algunas compras y el lunes, a trabajar. El “media day”, que fue el lunes, es un día que hay que tomarse con humor y bastante paciencia. Pasamos muchas horas haciendo fotos, videos, entrevistas, promociones, anuncios…  Y el martes ya empezaron los entrenamientos, que serán dos al día toda la semana… ya os contaré como va

We made it! Europe champions! It may seem a cliché but it’s reality: it has not been easy to win this gold medal. Maybe because of that, because we had to fight, suffer and work hard for it, this medal is specially valuable. Also because it’s the first gold medal in an European championship in the history of Spanish basketball, so it’s a great honor to be a part of this team. Right now it’s very difficult to describe how happy I am. This summer I had physical problems, and I started the competition injured, not being able to play the first game. I went through a difficult time, like the whole team did after losing the first game. But little by little the team and myself brought the best of us, and we overcame adversity in order to reach our goal. My family -my parents and my sister Marta – lived this moment with me and I want to thank them for their support. Then, of course, I want to thank the fans, because they always show their support also. Oh, and all of you that visit www.rudy5.net! Thanks! Now it’s time to celebrate, today in Madrid!

Lo hemos conseguido! Campeones de Europa! Parece un tópico pero es la realidad: no ha sido nada fácil ganar esta medalla de oro. A lo mejor por eso, porque hemos tenido que sufrir, trabajar y luchar mucho, esta medalla es especialmente valiosa. También por el hecho de que es la primera en el baloncesto español, y ha sido un orgullo formar parte de este equipo por ese motivo y muchos más. En estos momentos la alegría que tenemos, y yo particularmente, es enorme. Es muy difícil de describir. Este verano tuve problemas físicos, y empecé el Eurobasket tocado, sin poder jugar en el primer partido. Esto era una preocupación y pasé momentos difíciles, como todo el equipo después de perder el primer partido. Pero poco a poco, el equipo y yo mismo, hemos sacado lo mejor de nosotros mismos, nos hemos superado ante la adversidad, y hemos conseguido nuestro objetivo. Mi familia –mis padres y mi hermana Marta- han podido vivir este éxito conmigo, y ellos son los primeros a quién quiero agradecer su apoyo. The victory against Lithuania showed that when we are ourselves this team can do great things. Like I said after the game, I think we got back the winning ambition that has been a trade mark of this team the last years. Now we face the decisive game against Poland with this mentality, that of being ourselves. I hope when I write again it's with the quarter finals pass already in our pockets.

La victoria contra Lituania demostró que cuando somos nosotros mismos somos un equipo que puede hacer grandes cosas. Como dije después del partido, recuperamos la ambición ganadora que ha caracterizado a este equipo los últimos años. Ahora afrontamos el decisivo partido contra Polonia con esta mentalidad; la de ser nosotros mismos. Espero que cuando vuelva a escribir en este blog ya sea con la clasificación para los cuartos de final.

After suffering a little bit we are now in the second round of the tournament. After losing against Serbia in the first game the teal has been able to regain confidence and good feelings and we have playing closer to our potential. It has not been easy to win the last two games, but all teams are competitive and you have to keep fighting and persist. Personally, after missing the first game due to injury , the last two games have allowed me to regain my rhythm. Against Slovenia I played a lot of minutes and participated in the win and that helps my confidence, too. Now we have to rest and be good physically and ready mentally for the quarterfinals. My family will arrive to Poland this weekend and that’s important for me, too.

Después de sufrir un poco ya estamos en la segunda fase del Europeo. Después de la derrota inicial contra Serbia, el equipo ha podido recuperar gran parte del juego que puede hacer. Hemos reaccionado y hemos reencontrado buenas sensaciones en la pista. No ha sido fácil ganar los dos partidos, pero aquí todos los equipos compiten y hay que luchar y persistir. Personalmente, después de perderme el primer partido por lesión, los dos últimos partidos me han servido para recuperar ritmo. Contra Eslovenia pude jugar muchos minutos y participar en la victoria y esto también da confianza. Ahora tenemos que descansar y estar bien físicamente y mentalmente preparados para los cuartos  de final. Mi familia llegará a Polonia el fin de semana y esto también será importante para mí.

Like you know, I suffered a small injury in my thigh that forced me to stop. I couldn’t play the last game against Lithuania – a loss, by the way, that should make us more ready for the competition- and now I have to take a day at a time to see when I will play again. Luckily the injured is not very bad, but it’s a shame that it came now cause I had gotten back to my rhythm after going through a flu and some back problems. But I hope to make it on time and be able to help the team win the gold medal, which is our main goal.

Como sabéis, esta semana he sufrido una pequeña lesión que me ha obligado a parar. No pude jugar el último partido contra Lituania (una derrota que, por otra parte, nos debe servir para estar más preparados para la competición) y ahora tengo que ir día a día para saber cuándo podré jugar. Por suerte la lesión no es grave, pero es un contratiempo que me fastidia un poco porque ahora había encontrado mi ritmo después de pasar una gripe y recuperarme de la espalda. Pero espero llegar a tiempo y poder recuperar el ritmo y poder ayudar al equipo a ganar partidos y la medalla de oro, nuestro gran objetivo.

We have played the first four games of preparation, and everything has been good (except for the injuries of Pau, Alex and Jorge). We are working hard and we have been able to play our game and win all games. We won the Tournament in Sevilla, were the atmosphere was great, and we beat difficult teams like Slovenia and Lithuania, which are hard to beat. I hope to have more good news soon... And I see the visits on the web site are still high, even during the summer, and that's good. Hope you stick around...

Ya hemos jugado los cuatro primeros partidos de preparación, y la verdad es que las cosas han empezado bien. Exceptuando las lesiones de Pau, Jorge y Alex, el resumen es muy positivo. Estamos trabajando bien y hemos ganado todos los partidos, los tres últimos en Sevilla donde el embiante ha sido espectacular. Los dos últimos partidos contra Eslovenia y Lituania no eran fáciles, pero hemos conseguido hacer nuestro baloncesto. Espero poder seguir contando cosas buenas pronto... Y por cierto, veo que hay muchas visitas en la web incluso en verano, espero que esto siga así!

The new era in the national team has started for real. We played our first preparation game (win against Cuba) and this week we have a torurnament is Sevilla, where we are right now. The atmosphere will be great. We are working hard and the chemistry is great in the team... That's why the commercials look so good.

La nueva etapa de la selección ya ha empezado de verdad. Ganamos el primer partido de preparación, ya esta semana llegan dos más. Estamos ya en Sevilla, dónde sabemos que habrá un gran ambiente en el torneo. Esperamos que irá todo bien. Estamos trabajando y el ambiente es muy bueno... Por eso luego los anuncios salen tan bien!

After the vacations, now it´s time for the national team. the time has come to start working in order to be able to achieve our goal: the gold medal in the European Championship in Poland. Like every year, we are now in Cádiz and, like allways, we are a team in and outside the court. I'im sure that, If we work hard, we will be able to win the gold. I can't wait for that to happen. Me, after some days sick, I'm back 100% and ready to work. The first days, like you see in the picture, are for us to meet, do medical and physicl exams, and start working. I just want to be able to tell you, in a little more than a month, that we really achieved our goal... 

Después de las vacaciones, ha llegado el momento de la selección española. Ha llegado el momento de empezar a trabajar para conseguir nuestro objetivo: la medalla de oro en el Europeo de Polonia. Como cada año, nos hemos concentrado en Cádiz y, también como cada año, el ambiente es inmejorable. Somos un equipo en el sentido más amplio de la palabra, dentro y fuera de la cancha.
